CONCEPT-
INTRODUCTION
Lord Tirupati also known as Venkateshwara, Srinivasa, Venkata, Venkatacalapati, is a form of Hindu God Vishnu, who is believed to have appeared here to save mankind from trails and troubles of Kali-yuga. Venkateshwara literally means “Lords of Venkata”. The word is a combination of words Venkata (the name of the hill in Andhra Pradesh) and Ishvara (Lords). According to the Brahmanda and Bhavishyottara purans, the word 'Venkata’ means ‘destroyer of sins', derives from the Sanskrit words Vem (Sins) and Kata (Power immunity).
Sri Venkata has acquired unique sanctity in religious lores as the bestower of boons. Sastras, Puranas, Sthala Mahatyams and Alwar hymns unequivocally declare that, in the Kalyuga, one can attain mukti, only by worshipping Sri Venkateshwara.
LOCATION OF TIRUPATI BALAJI TEMPLE
Temple is situated in the town of Tirumala at Tirupati in Chittoor district of southern Andhra Pradesh, state at a distance of 120 km from Chennai.
- It lies in the foothills of Seshachallam hills of the Eastern Ghats located on the 7th pack of Venkata hill of Tirupati on the southern bank of Sri Swami Pushkairini popularly known as Tirupati Balaji Temple. Flanked by 3000 intermittent steps spread in 8 km area.
- Tirupati urban area included Tirupati city and its suburb Tirumala which is the home to Sri Venkateshwara Temple.

- According to ‘Varaha Purana’ Lord Ram rested here with wife Sita and brother Laxman on his way back from Lanka.
- Praised by Alvar saints in 5 AD. Temple has received royal patronage by Pallava rulers (9th AD), by Chola rules (10th AD), Vijaynagar rulers (14th AD).
- Temple rites were formalized by an illustrious Vaishnavite saint Ramanujacharya.
- Tirumala Venkateshwara temple was handed to Tirumala Tirupati devasthanam. By TTD act of 1932.
BALAJI POSTURE
Bhavishyottara Puran describes the Lord's bewitching postures:-
1- The lord’s lower arms are held in a unique pose. The right arm held in the ‘Vara Mudra”, with the fingers pointing to his lotus feet, telling us that it is they (His Tiruvadi) that form both our everlasting refuge and also the strategy to attain the same.
2- The lower left hand is held at the hip, slightly bent inwards, assuring us not to be terrified of ‘Samsaara’ the unfathomable ocean, which is only hip-deep to those who are under the Sharan of his lotus feet, (as indicates by his right palm).
3- It is also noteworthy that the Lord of Tiruvenkatam points to his tiruvadi with his open right palm, symbolically indicating the Bhagwat Gita dictum to surrender to him- “Maan Ekam Sharanam vrajal”, thereby confirming that this Lord is indeed Sri Krishna (Venkata Krishna) of Kalyuga.
PRAYER AND CHANTINGS FROM BRAHMANDA PURANAS:-
1- “Venkatesho, Vasudevah, pradhyumno, amitha Vikramah, Sankarshano, anirudhascha Seshdri patireva cha”
Meaning:- Lord Venkatesha is Vasudeva (Vasudeva means one who is present everywhere & root of knowledge); He (Lord Venkatesh) is unlimited valorous Pradhyumna, Sanskarsha, Anirudha and the Lord of Seshadri hills. (The Tirumala/ Tirupati hills was famously as seshadri in Dwaparyug).
2- “Srinidhi sarva bhoothaanaam bhayakrudh, bhaya nasana, Sri Ramo Ramabhadrascha bhava bhandaika mochakah”.
Meaning: - he who is the treasure of Goddess of fortune Lakshmi; and one who create fear in demon, he also destroyer fear in good beings; he is Rama, he is Rama who is extremely auspicious & ensures safety; he who release living beings from the bondage of cycle of birth & death.
